The Weekend Report ....
I left the Lil City by the Red around noon on Friday, first went to the office though, then rolled out, gather my belongings and headed South....
As I was traveling the I-49 South, my thoughts floated by to 1991, when I first as assigned to a prison near the Lil City by the Red...
In 1991 the I-49 corridor was incomplete and you couldn't go pass Opelousas... only a path cut through the trees there was... northward..... U had to take that old road.. up to and through, Bunkie, Cheneyville, LeCompte, etc... at 55 mph... and slower due to the log trucks, farm tractors, farm combines.. etc etc... through the heart of these old french hertiage villages and towns..
My memories are vivid ... about that time... I was young, spry... looking forward to new conquests, making things happen..at my new assignment as a deputy warden.
My thoughts harkended back, memories flooded the mind, I paid no attention to the radio, the windows of the Beast .. went down, the motor, all 485 horses romp... cigar lit.. and
I relived the first years of living in the Lil City by the Red...
As I approached Red Stick.. the memories of my late partner resounded in my thoughts.... O John.. my heart will never really be mended.. there will be still a little crack... a little throb of pain.. On the recollection of our memories.. at lest I did Not go by our old house this time... as I have done in the past trips to Red Stick.
When I arrived.. in Red Stick.. I began to find out if Old friends were around and seeing if they wanted a visitor ...
and They most certainly did... I stopped by and saw Sam and William.... both will be 80 and 77 this year.. .. long time friends of my youth in my 20s.. the Gay Uncles of a passed generation.
Then to my accommodations... they were nice, new high rise hotel.. .. Supper was a gourmet full five course marathon... after 3 hours... it was time to call Uber...
Saturday was spent on more old friendships, catching up on this and that... saw some political operatives... discussed the current state of affairs... remember and rejoiced in stories/tales of battles long passed... rememberances...of also those who have went on....
Saturday night... I had supper with Jared and Tracy... just back from thier honeymoon in Mexico.. Jared is 27... Tracy 53.... maybe there is still hope...Alive .. Maybe for even Me.....
Woke up.. early ... on Sunday... felt refreshed... Vigor... jumped in the Beast... stopped in Lottie gased up... and up I-49 I went..
The feeling was it was a trip long overdue.. Yes it was.... Long OverDue....!!!
